EXHIBITION BY DRAŽEN ZETIĆ: “THE TREASURY OF THE SPIRIT OF THE SOUTHEASTERN ADRIATIC”
Location: Croatian Maritime Museum Split (Glagoljaška 18)
Date: February 21, 2025 – March 23, 2025
The photography exhibition by Dražen Zetić, titled “The Treasury of the Spirit of the Southeastern Adriatic” showcases Catholic churches in the Bay of Kotor and along the Montenegrin coast.
For those familiar with the region’s history, images of medieval churches emerg —not only in episcopal centers like Bar, Budva, and Kotor but also in their surroundings, in villages, olive groves, and scenic landscapes, perched on clearings with views stretching over the deep blue sea and towering mountains of the hinterland. Zetić captures not only well-preserved and maintained churches in urban settings but also numerous ruined structures—standing walls, archaeological remains, fragments of interlace sculpture, or traces of frescoes from different historical periods.
Dražen Zetić first introduced his work to the wider public in the Bay of Kotor in 2011 with his debut photography exhibition, Verige. In 2014, he presented Iz vjedara mora (Records of the Bay) at the Cinkuš Gallery. In 2018, as part of the Tripundan Festivities in Rijeka, he showcased the exhibition of the same name. In 2021, he created the Gorčina kruha series, dedicated to rural themes, customs, and traditions of the Croatian people in Bosanska Posavina. That same year, on April 29, he held Croatia’s first exhibition on earthquakes and sinkholes in Banovina at the Napredak Cultural Center. On May 12, 2021, on the feast day of St. Leopold Bogdan Mandić, he presented Fides et honor at the Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, dedicated to one of the oldest maritime brotherhoods in the southeastern Adriatic.
